Why Do You Need Cigar Humidor Storage?

Without proper storage a cigar can last only a few days because it will dry out. But with proper storage a cigar can months or even years. Humidors are designed to provide a space to control relative humidity using humidification, which is essential to the life span and quality control of a cigar. Every cigar enthusiast NEEDS to carry a cigar humidor to hold and store cigars to maintain maximum consistency and life span. Not only does proper storage increase the life of your cigar but it maintains the flavor profile of how the cigar was intended to be enjoyed.

A cigar humidor is a storage solution for your cigars that come in many different shapes, sizes, and designs. It allows for the above benefits and also a really cool way to display and show off a collection of cigars ranging from a small collection to thousands!

Seasoning Your Cigar Humidor

The seasoning process is designed to bring the wood lining inside the humidor as close as possible to operating relative humidity. The wood lining inside the humidors acts as a buffer to regulate moisture so it must be treated properly before introducing the cigars.

  1. When setting up a new humidor for the first time, remove any dust or debri from the manufacturing process by wiping down the interior with a dry cloth.
  2. If the humidor is new or has not been used for some time, place a small shallow bowl or container of distilled water inside the box.
  3. Close the lid and let it sit and acclimate for 12-24 hours.
  4. Once the time has passed, if a large portion of the water has evaporated, refill the bowl a second time and leave it inside the cigar humidor for another 24 hours.
  5. Once the water stops evaporating, proceed to "charge the humidifier."
  6. "Charging the humidor"  - Just before loading cigars in the humidor remove the cigar humidifier unit from the box (this is the sponge like plastic device that is soaked in distilled water).
  7. Submerge the cigar humidifier in distilled water or humidifier solution for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove it from the water or solution, dry it and set it face down on a paper towel for 30 minutes. This is to allow any excess water to escape from the humidifier so that water leakage on to the cigars is avoided.
  9. Once this step is completed, secure the humidifier to the inside of the box using the included velcro adhesive or magnets.
  10. The humidor is now seasoned and the cigars can now be set inside.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • How often should the humidifiers be re-soaked?

If your humidor doesn't come with a hygrometer, simply re-soak your humidifier once every 2-3 weeks. That will keep
your cigars in check. Drier environments re-soak every 1.5-2 weeks. A reading of 68-70% relative
humidity (RH) (per your hygrometer) is most desirable, although a bit above or below (64-72%
depending on preference) is not detrimental to your cigars. Once the humidity drops few percentage
points below the chosen ideal RH (usually in 2-3 weeks), it is time re-charge the humidifier. If the desired
humidity level is still not reached or cigars seem a bit dry, consider adding additional humidification
devices (like humidiner gel jars, gel tubes, additional humidiners or a shot glass/ shallow container of
    distilled water

What if Humidity Levels are too High?
Occasionallv a humidor will become overiv saturated or its humiditv level will be too high. If this is the
case, leave the humidor open partially to allow some of the moisture to escape or add additional cigars
    into the humidor.
